Tips for Avoiding Plumbing Repair

Published Date: June 16th, 2015 | Category: Plumbing Repair

When it comes to needing plumbing repair, there is never a convenient time for your home’s plumbing system to break and need repair work done. But there are a few preventative measures you can take to help prevent plumbing repair in your Edina home. Here are a few suggestions on what to do from the pros here at All Ways Drains.

For one thing, when it comes to your toilets, you never want to flush anything down them that is not human waste or toilet paper. You should not flush diapers, feminine hygiene products, tissues or anything like that. These items can clog up your toilets, drains and sewer and cause a host of issues that will require a call to us for plumbing repair.

If you are noticing that a drain is draining slower than usual, you can use a plunger to try to fix it. Using a plunger should help with clogs and whatever is causing your drain to back up.

Two of the best all-purpose drain cleaners are vinegar and baking soda. You can pour 1/4 cup of baking soda and a 1/2 cup of vinegar down the drain to unclog it or as a preventative measure to clean it out before it gets clogged. Pour the baking soda and vinegar down the drain separately though; do not combine them before you pour them down the drain.

Avoid pouring grease or any other type of oil down your drains. This causes big problems with clogs and other plumbing repair issues like that. It could also result in a broken garbage disposal and other problems like that.

Every month or so, open up all of the drains in your home that you can and clean them out. Use a snake or another plumbing device like that to remove hair and other debris that has built up in there.

Every so often, go outside and take a look at your yard. Are you seeing any unexplained flooding, or are there any parts of the ground that are softer than other parts for no apparent reason? If so, you might need to get your sewer looked at by professionals like the ones here at All Ways Drains. These could be red flags that could indicate a problem with your sewer.
