At All Ways Drains, we are happy to answer questions about our services and all things plumbing-related. But there are some questions that we seem to get pretty frequently. We love answering questions about what we do, so here are a few of the questions we get the most and our usual responses. And when you need a plumbing contractor in Minneapolis, give us a call!

Q: My shower is not draining as fast as it used to. What should I do?

A: You can use products meant to unclog drains, but these can sometimes hurt pipes, especially in older homes. There are a few other ways to try to fix this problem yourself though. You can use a solution of a 1/2 cup of vinegar and a 1/2 cup of baking soda to unclog the drain. Pour these two materials separately into the drain (do not mix them beforehand). Let them sit for awhile and then let some water run into the drain. If this does not help and if snaking or plunging the drain does not help, call us so we can send a plumbing contractor to your home.

Q: My faucet makes an odd clunking noise when I turn it on and off. Should I be worried?

A: This is probably a noise caused by a loose washer. Simply take out the old one and replace it. If this does not work, call us and we can send a plumbing contractor out to fix it. But generally speaking, a loose washer should be the culprit when your faucet is making a noise like this. If you can’t get the old washer out, turn the water on and that should flush it out.

Q: Is copper the best material for piping?

A: Copper is definitely one of the best. Plastic will sag over time, and it could get brittle too. And if you need any repairs done to plastic pipes, they can be even more of a hassle because you cannot run water through them until the glue dries. Copper piping can be soldered and you don’t have to wait for anything to dry. And copper is not at risk of being chewed on and damaged by rodents like mice. Our plumbing contractor can assist when you need any copper piping work done.
