Problem: the toilet bowl is overflowing

Solution: plunge the toilet to unclog it

A clogged toilet will often cause the toilet bowl to overflow. However, this is one of the simplest problems to fix! While the toilet bowl is full of water, simply use your plunger to unclog the toilet and move on with your day.

Step-by-step Solution:

1. While the toilet is filled with water, insert the plunger into the bowl.

2. Press the mouth of the plunger against the opening at the bottom of the toilet firmly to create a seal.

3. Use a push and pull motion to create pressure and unclog the drain. Repeat the motion eight to ten times, then check to see if the toilet is still clogged.

4. If necessary, repeat step 3 one or two more times. If the toilet still isn’t draining, then call us at All Ways Drains!

Problem: the handle wiggles, but the toilet won’t flush

Solution: reconnect the chain in the tank

If when you go to flush you notice that the handle depresses without tension and the toilet does not flush, then you most likely need to reconnect the chain in the tank of your toilet. Sometimes, the chain can become disconnected from the arm, meaning that when you push the handle down, nothing happens.

Step-by-step Solution:

1. Turn off the shut-off valve that is located on the small hose behind the toilet.

2. Remove the tank cover. Visually inspect the inside of the tank to check for the chain and arm.

3. Once you have located the chain and arm, pull the chain to confirm that the flap (often referred to as the flapper) is still properly connected to the chain.

4. If the flapper is still connected to the chain, but the chain is no longer connected to the arm, simply reattach the chain.

5. However, if the chain is broken, you will need to go out to purchase a new chain to replace it entirely.

6. If neither step 4 nor 5 solve the problem, there may be another issue at play. Give All Ways Drains a call and we can come to complete toilet repairs with ease!
